Privacy Policy for EuroBoatMaster

Last updated: March 11, 2025

EuroBoatMaster (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a mobile application that helps you prepare for European boating license exams. This privacy policy explains what information the app uses and how it is handled.

1. Information We Collect and Use

1.1 Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following data only on your device (in iOS UserDefaults). We do not upload this data to any server:

  • Mock exam results: When you complete a mock exam, we save your score, the number of questions, whether you passed, and the date. This is used to show your “Readiness” level and your exam history (Mock Exam Passes). You can clear this history at any time from within the app.

This data stays on your iPhone or iPad and is not sent to us or any third party.

1.2 Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app shows advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google may collect or use:

  • Device information (e.g. device type, OS version)
  • Advertising identifiers (e.g. IDFA on iOS)
  • Approximate location (e.g. country)
  • App usage data related to ads (e.g. ad views, clicks)

App Tracking Transparency (ATT): On iOS 14 and later, we ask for your permission before using your data for tracking (e.g. personalized ads). You can allow or deny this in the system prompt. Denying does not stop ads; you may see less relevant (non‑personalized) ads. Google’s use of data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s advertising policies.

2. How We Use Information

  • Exam history on device: To display your readiness level and past mock exam results, and to improve your experience within the app.
  • Advertising: We do not use your data for our own advertising. Ad delivery and measurement are handled by Google AdMob as described above.

3. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not share the mock exam data stored on your device with anyone; it never leaves your device.
  • Google (AdMob) may collect and process data as described in their privacy policy when you use the app and see ads.

4. Data Retention

  • On your device: Mock exam history remains until you delete it (via the in‑app option to clear passes) or uninstall the app.
  • Google AdMob: Retention of advertising-related data is determined by Google’s policies.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Tracking: On iOS, you can change your tracking preference at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Ad personalization: You can manage ad personalization in Google’s Ad Settings.
  • Local data: Clear your mock exam history from the Mock Exam Passes screen in the app when the option is available.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or other regions with similar laws, you may have additional rights (e.g. access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection). To exercise them regarding data we control, contact us using the details below. For data processed by Google, refer to Google’s privacy policy and tools.

6. Children

The app is intended for general use by persons preparing for boating license exams. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

7. Security

Data stored on your device is kept in the app’s local storage (UserDefaults). We do not transmit your exam history over the internet. You are responsible for keeping your device secure (e.g. passcode, biometrics).

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we may notify you in the app or via the App Store listing.

9. Contact

10. Legal Basis (EEA/UK)

Where applicable under GDPR or UK GDPR:

  • Local exam data: Stored and used on the basis of your use of the app (performance of our service to you) and, where relevant, your consent (e.g. when you choose to save results).
  • Advertising: Relies on your consent (e.g. via ATT) where required; otherwise legitimate interests or other applicable bases as set out in Google’s policies.

Any legal action or proceeding related to this App shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Amman, Jordan.
