Privacy Policy for SIA Shield: Security Prep

Last updated: 25 March 2026

This privacy policy describes how SIA Shield: Security Prep (the “App”) handles information when you use it on a mobile device, including the Android and Apple (iOS) versions of the App. The core experience and data practices are intended to be the same on both platforms.

Important: The App is an educational revision and practice tool only. It is not affiliated with the Security Industry Authority (SIA), the Home Office, or any awarding organisation. Always follow current official guidance and training requirements.

1. Who is responsible for your information?

The data controller is Muehldorf Software Development.

If you have questions about this policy or your personal data, contact us at info@muehldorfsd.com.

2. What the App does

The App lets you practise multiple-choice questions on topics such as core security knowledge, conflict management, physical intervention, and first aid (EFAW-style content), with optional session settings (for example shuffle, exam mode, and question limits).

3. Information we do not collect through the App

  • We do not require you to create an account.
  • We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or postal address in the App.
  • We do not integrate third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the current version of the App (other than advertising as described below).

4. Information stored on your device

The App stores local preferences and practice statistics in the operating system’s private app storage (for example Android SharedPreferences or Apple UserDefaults), including:

  • Selected category or module
  • Session options (e.g. shuffle, exam mode, question limit)
  • Aggregated practice counts (e.g. lifetime questions completed and success counts)

This data stays on your device unless you uninstall the App, clear the App’s data, or your device’s backup or transfer features copy app data (for example via your Google or Apple account and device settings).

5. Advertising, ATT and consent (Google AdMob)

The App displays advertisements using Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). That may include banner, interstitial, and native formats.

On iOS, we implement Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Before personalised tracking is used for ads, iOS asks you whether you allow tracking for this app.

  • If you allow tracking, AdMob may use the identifier for advertisers (IDFA) and related signals for personalised ads (subject to Google’s own controls and policies).
  • If you do not allow tracking, the app does not use ATT-authorised tracking for ad personalisation through this mechanism.

On Android, there is no exact ATT equivalent. We use Google’s consent flow (User Messaging Platform / AdMob privacy messaging) where required, so ad requests and personalisation choices follow Google’s applicable consent requirements (including UK/EEA/CH contexts where relevant).

When ads are shown or loaded, Google may process data such as:

  • Device and app identifiers (e.g. advertising ID where available)
  • IP address
  • General location (often derived from IP)
  • Ad interaction data
  • Technical diagnostics related to ad delivery

Google uses this information to show and measure ads, prevent fraud, and improve its services. Their practices are described in Google’s policies, including:

Where required, Google may act as an independent controller for advertising-related processing. You can manage choices through your Google account, Android advertising settings (including your advertising ID controls), and on iOS through Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (including turning tracking permission on/off for this app after first choice).

The App needs network access so that ads and related services can load over the internet (on Android this is declared as the INTERNET permission).

6. Haptics and vibration

The App may use haptic feedback or vibration (depending on platform and device) for light feedback (for example when you tap controls or when an answer is incorrect). This does not send data off your device.

7. Legal bases (UK GDPR)

Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Legitimate interests — operating and improving the App, storing your local preferences and statistics on your device, and (where applicable) keeping the App sustainable through advertising.
  • Consent — where consent is required for personalised advertising/tracking, including through Apple ATT on iOS and/or Google consent messaging on Android where applicable, we rely on the consent choice presented by the device/platform and Google’s ad consent flow.

8. Sharing personal data

We do not sell your personal data.

We share data only as needed to run the App, in particular:

  • Google (AdMob) — for serving and measuring advertisements, as described above.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.

9. International transfers

Google operates globally. Data processed by Google may be transferred outside the UK / EEA where Google’s safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or UK adequacy decisions) apply as described in Google’s privacy documentation.

10. Retention

  • On-device preferences and statistics remain until you remove them (e.g. by clearing app data or uninstalling).
  • Google retains ad-related data according to its own retention policies.

11. Security

We design the App to keep routine practice data on the device in private app storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we encourage you to keep your device software up to date and use device security features.

12. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the age required by your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently processed a child’s data, contact us using the details in section 1.

13. Your rights (UK)

If UK data protection law applies to processing we control, you may have rights including:

  • Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability (where applicable)
  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)https://ico.org.uk

For much of the data described in this policy, we do not receive copies on our own servers. You can usually remove local app data by clearing storage in Android settings or deleting the app on iOS. For data held by Google, use Google’s privacy tools and ad settings.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be communicated in the App or on the store listing where appropriate.
